Designed by sustainable solutions company MINIWIZ Sustainable Development Ltd, the new Nike Store in Shanghai is made entirely of recycled materials.
Located on Xinle Road, not far from Nike China’s headquarters, Nike X158 is the sports brand’s latest concept store in the city. The store boasts of having the lowest carbon footprint and is made out of water bottles, soda cans, and old CDs and DVDs. All the materials were assembled mechanically and without glue to make them 100% reusable.
The store’s connection joints are made from aluminium cans and the tension cables are made from recycled water bottles. The ceiling panels are made from origami RiceFOLD panels, which were made from recycled digital and compact discs. Most of the materials were reinforced with a natural organic mechanical strengthening additive called Rice Husk SiO2.
The suspension ceiling system was designed to be flexible and suitable for any type of exhibitions or events. The entire space can be adjusted for any future installations in the store. The mix-use space sells the brand’s newest designs and limited edition stocks. The store also has a second floor space designed for events.
