It’s New York Fashion Week again and this time around forward-thinking retailer Opening Ceremony has launched a mega pop-up shop with surprises in store.

The SuperPier at Hudson River Park will feature a week’s worth of shopping and events, selected by OC and sponsored by Motorola. All 19,000 square feet of the repurposed industrial pier will showcase the latest and greatest, from the FW 2013 DKNY Exclusively for Opening Ceremony collaboration and Rihanna for River Island collection, to specialty food vendors such as cronut maker Dominique Ansel Bakery, Coca-Cola designer drink-wear and bike vendor NKBC.

The pop-up shops are all housed in refitted shipping containers, which preview the style of the space well in advance of its official 2015 opening. The venue will also unveil the first-ever Opening Ceremony catwalk show, centered around their men’s and women’s lines for SS 2014.

Certain evenings will also feature the OC-hosted “Sunset Takeover,” a musical series pairing rising designers with up-and-coming music movements.

Within the Opening Ceremony SuperPier, Motorola is also presenting a one-of-a-kind exhibit of wearable technology and material science. Curated by Cool Hunting and Dr Sabine Seymour’s Moondial, various artists and designers from all over the world have been selected to highlight their wearable tech products—all of which fall at the crossroads of style and function. Dr Seymour, director of the Fashionable Technology lab at Parsons New School for Design in New York, is an expert in wearables and has curated works from 3D-printed design to motion responsive sneakers. The exhibit will be showcasing the art of Ying Gao, Popkalab, Materialise, and Bless. It’s a fashion-forward hub situated amidst the Fashion Week culture swirl. Altogether, Opening Ceremony has created a one-stop NYFW must.
