Hoping to promote some holiday cheer (and public canoodling), TGIF U.K. is testing the use of mistletoe-toting drones in one of its restaurants.

The mistletoe-bedecked mini-aircraft are hovering above and around diners at the Royal Exchange restaurant in Manchester, U.K., according to the Manchester Evening News and other outlets (see video below).

There is precedent: Last year Yo Sushi, a London restaurant chain, experimented with drone-based food delivery to tables (see the video below.) It’s unclear whether it ever actually rolled out that service, however.

As Gigaom’s Signe Brewster has reported, the use of drones in consumer applications will only increase, although outdoor use faces regulatory issues with the FAA. Inside use, I presume, is exempt from those concerns, but will still raise worker safety and liability issues as well.
